Oculus Proxies Review

Is Oculus Proxies good enough for your project? I have reviewed their ISP proxies and carried out tests that help provide an answer to this question. You can find the answers to my discoveries in the article below.

Oculus Proxies Review

A visit to the homepage of Oculus Proxies will reveal they have got over 70K customers with over 300K IP addresses in their pool. These numbers were put out by their marketing team to get you interested in their offerings.

But are their proxies as effective and good as they will want you to believe or do they only have a good marketing team? I will provide you with an honest review of their proxies in different aspects such as location support, performance, speed, pricing, and ease of usage among others.

An Overview of Oculus Proxies

Oculus Proxies Review

It is important you know that the service recently rebranded into a full-fledged proxy service from offering proxies only for sneaker copping. Our focus is on their current proxy offerings and specifically their ISP and ISP premium proxies. If you are interested in their sneaker proxies, you might as well go to the legacy site for that available at https://oculusproxies.com/legacy.

Here, I will review their ISP proxies with IPs gotten directly from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) but hosted on datacenter infrastructure. The review will be divided into two sections — pros and cons, discussing both the positives and negatives respectively.

Pros of Oculus Proxies

Below are some of the core strengths of Oculus Proxies — it beats some of its competitors in some.

Offers Different Flavors of ISP Proxies

The current trend in the market is for providers to offer static dedicated ISP proxies. Nothing is wrong with this approach but it limits its usage to account management by default. If you want to use them for tasks that require IP rotation, it is your duty to rotate them yourself and the cost can quickly go up depending on the size of your project. In the case of Oculus Proxies, you are given two options to choose from — ISP and ISP premium.

Offers Different flavors of ISP Proxies

The ISP proxy package offers you access to a shared pool of ISP IP addresses and charges you based on consumed bandwidth. The pool size is over 200K IP addresses. For this, you get IPs rotated for you which makes it great for web scraping and other types of automation that need IPs changed frequently. They work great for e-commerce sites too.

ISP proxy

The ISP premium package, on the other hand, is the static dedicated ISP proxy option. For this, you are charged based on the number of IP addresses in the package. However, unlike other providers that allow you to use unlimited bandwidth, their own comes with limited bandwidth with limits depending on the package you subscribe to, starting from 2TB. This type is quite great for account management and works well with social media and Google sites. Also, unlike in the case of their regular ISP, this premium option comes with private IPs only, enabling only you to use the proxies you bought.

Pool Size Big and Location Support Good for Its ISP Proxy

As mentioned earlier, there are over 200K IPs in their shared ISP pool for those that need rotating ISP proxies for scraping and other types of automation. When compared to residential proxy pools, this is not even up to the smallest as the smallest pools in that market have 2 million IPs while the largest have up to 100 million IPs.

However, only a few ISP services can boast of having over 200K in their pool with Bright Data having the largest with 900K IPs. Proxy-seller, Smartproxy, and Proxy-sale also have a big IP pool.

proxy location

One thing you will come to like about this service is its location support, for this shared pool, you can choose the specific country you want IP addresses from. It does have support for IPs from multiple countries in North America, Europe, and Asia.

These zones form the largest share of their IP pool. With this, you should be able to scrape and access geo-targeted data points from the US and some European countries with ease provided your project size is not too large.

High Performance in Terms of Speed

One of the main pros of Oculus Proxies is their speed. Here, I speak mainly for their ISP premium as that is the one you can have all of the server performance juice to yourself. I tested the performance of their proxies from a small town in Africa. This means you will most likely have a better performance result than I do. Below is my performance speed report using the fast.com website.

High Performance in terms of Speed

As you can see from the above screenshot, I recorded an average of 39 Mbps download speed while the upload speed was 30 Mbps. While these results aren’t great by world standards, I can use them as a benchmark to determine whether Oculus Proxies are fast or not, based on the offset. Below is the result with Oculus ISP premium tested.

Oculus ISP premium tested

As displayed above, you can see that the download speed is 37 Mbps, which is just 2Mbps less than the result without using any proxy. This is an outstanding performance and can be said to be one of the best results I have recorded so far. With this, you could be able to stream and unblock Netflix US and its competitors, play online video games, and watch YouTube and other content online.

Cheap Pricing with a Caveat

In terms of pricing, there are two pricing model for their ISP proxies, depending on whether you want their ISP or ISP premium proxies. For the ISP proxies that off you access to a shared pool of IPs from over 50 countries, pricing is based on bandwidth and you can use as many IPs as you want from the pool.

The pricing starts from $18 and this package comes with 15GB, putting the price per GB at $1.2. this is one of the cheapest in the market right now. However, having a minimum monetary commitment might scare some people away since some customers only want 1GB – 5GB but the minimum is 15GB.

On the other hand, if you go for the ISP premium, the charge is based on the number of IPs but still has a bandwidth limit and this is one of the caveats. Most other ISP proxies do not come with limited bandwidth but that is Oculus Proxies come with bandwidth limits.

Their ISP premium starts from $48 and comes with 30 IP addresses and a bandwidth limit of 2TB. This put the price per IP at $1.6 per IP, making it also one of the cheapest. However, not everyone wants to purchase 30 IPs. For instance, in some of my projects, all I needed were 5 IPs.

Ease of Usage

The Oculus Proxies website has been designed in such a way that even a newbie can use it without the need for a guide. It is generally minimalistic and only presents UI elements that are key.

Oculus Proxies Ease-of-Usage

However, at first, you can get overwhelmed if you visit the user dashboard as it is basically a single page with most of the popular tasks you will want to carry on this page. From this single page, you are able to whitelist your IP address and choose the required IP protocol as it supports HTTP(S) and SOCK5.

Oculus Proxies Configure Proxies

You can also download or get your proxy credentials such as host and port from there. The service also comes with a free proxy testing tool making it easy for you to test their proxies before usage right from the user dashboard. One way it makes authentication easy is that it can auto-detect your device IP address when you visit the user dashboard.

However, for other devices, you need to manually add them. Currently, there is no support for username and password authentication which is kind of surprising as it is a convenient and even the de facto method of authentication.

Cons of Oculus Proxies

As with other proxy services, while it has its core strengths, it also has its weaknesses which intending customers need to be aware of. For some users, some of these have little to no impact on their usage and as such, they can disregard them and go ahead. For others, they are important enough to use an alternative provider instead.

Limited Location Support

If you use their ISP proxy, the one with a shared pool, you will have access to about 50 countries to choose from. This is not the issue. The issue is with their premium ISP proxy, the one with dedicated IPs. For these, you only get access to US IP addresses. This is not an issue for tasks that do not require IPs from specific countries or that require US IPs but for tasks that do, you can’t use their service.

To put things into perspective, Proxy-seller, a leading dedicated ISP proxy offers support for 25 countries cutting across Europe, Asia, North and South America, as well as Australia. Smartproxy another provider offers support for 9 countries including the US, UK, Japan, and France.

Bright Data also has support for IPs from the most sought-after countries. In the case of Oculus Proxies, you only get access to one country which is the US. You can’t use it to stream Netflix UK or unblock sites that do not allow US IP addresses.

If you need access to a different location other than the US, you should use Proxy-seller as it has the largest location coverage and is equally fast and effective for account management.

No Free Trial Support and a Friendly Refund Policy

Free trial is offered only for their datacenter proxies which are not the focus of this review. The focus is on their ISP proxies and for this, there is no trial offered. You need to pay to use their proxies and the minimum you can pay is either $18 or $48 depending on whether you go for their ISP or ISP premium offer. Unfortunately, the refund policy is rigid and not in your favor.

According to their term of service, Oculus Proxies states that all sales are final and not refundable. The only reason you can get a refund is if they are unable to provide you with the proxy or the proxy is faulty from their end.

The lack of a free trial offer and a refund policy is a turn-off for some marketers. If you are a heavy user, you can contact their customer support and tell them what you need their proxies for, you could get a limited trial plan so you don’t end up with proxies you don’t need.

Customer Support is Slow

Another aspect of the service I am not cool with is the speed of their customer support. Coming from a sneaker proxy background, the service focuses it customer support in Discord. For sneaker copping, Discord is a popular messaging tool and all interested users also have Discord installed. However, for general proxy usage, as it has now rebranded, most of its users might not have Discord installed. And not all users are ready to install it just for customer support.

They are now left with two options — either they go for their bot or send them an email. Except your inquiry is part of their FAQs, the bot wouldn’t be helpful. You will have to depend on sending them an email. Their email support can be slow as you will have to wait for a few hours to get a response. This is in contrast to some other providers that have live chat support with real human agents that respond to your queries quickly.

Do I Recommend Oculus Proxies?

Sure, Oculus Proxies is recommended. It has one of the best performance, especially in the aspect of speed. Its IP addresses are undetectable and can be used to access sites with the most effective anti-spam systems. It also has affordable pricing per GB or IP only that there is a minimum monetary commitment that will scare small proxy users.

However, the service is still not for everyone. If you are looking for IPs from a specific country other than the US, its ISP premium service is not a good option for you. There is also the issue of no trial and refund which might be bad for you if their proxies don’t work for your use case.
